/ Quick answers

Routine FAQs.

What is the correct order to apply skincare?

Apply skincare from thinnest to thickest consistency. The standard order is: cleanser, toner or essence, serums (lightest to richest), eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF in the morning only. At night, replace SPF with a richer night cream or facial oil.

How long should a skincare routine take?

A complete routine should take 3 to 5 minutes once you know it. Morning routines are typically faster (under 3 minutes), and evening routines slightly longer (4 to 6 minutes). The 10-step Korean routine is an exception, taking 10 to 15 minutes.

Should I use the same routine morning and night?

No. Morning and evening routines have different goals. Morning routines focus on protection: antioxidants (vitamin C), hydration, and SPF. Evening routines focus on repair: cleansing the day off, applying actives like retinoids or AHAs, and locking in moisture overnight.

How long should I wait between skincare layers?

For most products, wait 30 to 60 seconds between layers so each absorbs. After tretinoin or other retinoids, wait 20 minutes before applying moisturizer to avoid neutralizing the active. After acid toners, wait 5 minutes.

Can I skip toner in my skincare routine?

Yes. Modern toners are optional unless you specifically need their function — hydrating toners (with hyaluronic acid or glycerin), exfoliating toners (with BHA or AHA), or balancing toners (for very oily or post-cleanse pH issues). Skip if you do not have a specific need.
